Education

The International Institute of Marine Surveying as the professional body for marine surveying recognises the need to promote the profession and the professionals within it to the highest level.  The IIMS Diploma Programme is a distance learning system with many years of experience allied to a practical system of training that provides the learner with information and training to achieve the standards set by the Institute.  The Institute is the only organisation to offer a professional Career Path to new beginners and established surveyors.

Level One is the first year of basic training incorporating four Core Units and a selection of Endorsement Units

Level Two is the Second year with training aimed at Specialised Endorsement Units (8 Units in each area).

Level Three is the BSc (Hons) Degree course and may be available by distance learning through the University of Portsmouth. Acceptance on this degree is subject to the University of Portsmouth's direct entry requirements.

Level Four, the Masters Degree may also be available through the University of Portsmouth. Acceptance on this degree is subject to the University of Portsmouth's Master's entry requirements.

Educational Packages

Members of the Institute may purchase any Diploma module as a stand-alone learning package.

  • Single Modules Cost: (Price on demand)
  • Blocks of 4 Modules Cost: (Price on demand)

The process is:

  • Purchase a chosen module.
  • Study it and any recommended reading.
  • Submit the Tutor marked Assignment.
  • Receive an acceptable mark.
  • Receive a Certificate of Completion!

All units studied individually may be accredited against an Institute Diploma at a later date.
