The International Institute of Marine Surveying as the professional body for marine surveying recognises the need to promote the profession and the professionals within it to the highest level.

In collaboration with the University of Portsmouth the Institute has developed a range of Diplomas that provide underpinning knowledge and skills at Level One, Specialist Skills at Level Two and a third year of studies to lead into a BSc (Hons) Degree and MSc Course in Maritime Studies.

The Institute has a planned career path for Marine Surveyors:

Career Path for Marine Surveyors

Diplomas

Level One is a year-long modular course, delivered by Distance Learning with a choice of specialist subjects offering a career path opportunity for new surveyors and an option for the seafarer coming ashore and seeking a new career. The courses provide current surveyors with a way to extend and develop their portfolio of skills.

Level Two again delivered by Distance Learning provides additional specialist training to enhance the base skills from Level One and can add knowledge and supplementary skills for the experienced surveyor.

Level Three is the BSc(Hons) Degree year and is available by Distance Learning through the University of Portsmouth

Level Four is the Masters Degree available through the University of Portsmouth.

All the Diplomas are professionally and internationally recognised qualifications.
