  Khalil QC
DESCRIPTION:The harrowing sinking in May 2014 and subsequent high profile c
 ourt case of the yacht Cheeki Rafiki\, concluding earlier this year\, has 
 resulted in an extended debate over the safety of modern sailing boats and
  the Regulations surrounding them. The yacht\, a Bénéteau First 40.7\, l
 ost her keel about 720 nautical miles Southeast of Nova Scotia and subsequ
 ently capsized. Rescue services found her upturned hull before it sank but
  the crew comprising four English men was never found.\n\nKarim Khalil QC\
 , who played a central role in the case defending Douglas Innes\, is deliv
 ering a one-off lecture at the Marwell Hotel near Winchester on Thursday 2
 6th July from 16.00 to 18.00 and will take questions. The lecture\, which 
 is offered to a closed audience by invitation only\, is open to real-time 
 and online delegates who can join from any location in the world. It will

 ost respected Queen's Council. He is highly experienced in a wide range of
  work having been called to the bar in 1984 and taken Silk in 2003 whilst 
 prosecuting the Soham murders. Recently he successfully represented Dougla
 s Innes in a case that particularly interests all coding surveyors – the
  Cheeki Rafiki case. This raised a number of notable lessons\, not only fo
 r mariners and surveyors but also for the MCA whose approach to maritime R
 egulations came under considerable criticism. Karim will take us through t
 hose lessons and share his thoughts on what the industry and the MCA need
