SUMMARY:Certifying Authority Training Day - Online
DESCRIPTION:IIMS set to change its Certifying Authority training strategy\n
\nFor many years\, the IIMS Certifying Authority (CA) has pursued a rigid
training policy\, requiring an examiner to attend one of the two days real
time training that have been arranged annually. This concept now seems so
mewhat outdated and inflexible. Furthermore\, asking an examiner whose spe
cialism is coding motorboats to sit through a presentation on workboats an
d cranes at a training day is not a great use of anyone’s time\, unless
it has direct relevance of course!\n\nIt has always been a requirement as
part of the Institute’s contract with the Maritime &amp\; Coastguard Age
ncy (MCA) that our coding examiners are continually assessed\, which inclu
des attending training. And at MCA audit the CA is asked to provide eviden
ce that this has happened.\n\nThe new-look CA training strategy aims to be
more targeted toward various specific aspects of the Codes. So instead of
full days of training covering a variety of topics\, the IIMS CA is plann
ing a series of succinct\, tailored presentations that last for a much sho
rter time for a modest fee\, all broadcast via Zoom whilst the pandemic co
ntinues. It is expected that coding examiners will have attended two train
ing sessions in one full calendar year. A series of training dates for 202
1 will be published in the coming weeks\, but for now\, the first one in t
his new format is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 10 November starting
at 10.00 (London UK time).\n\n10.00 An explanation of the process of Plan

 e) if the structure is altered\n\n11.30 Roger Barry\, Marine Safety Engine
ering Manager\, Inmarsat\, gives an overview of GMDSS (Global Maritime Dis
tress and Safety System)\n\n12.15 Update on the Codes by Fraser Noble\, II
MS Certifying Authority Chairman\n\n13.00 Close\n\nThe cost of this traini
ng session is £45 - please reserve your place below. If you prefer not to
book online\, please call Camella Robertson on +44 23 9238 5223 or email
her to reserve your place.\n\nIIMS CA training has always been open to exa
miners from other organisations and this policy will not change. Equally\,
if an IIMS examiner attends training provided by another UK CA\, that sho
uld be recorded with the Institute.
