SUMMARY:Essential Composites Seminar: Introducing laser shearography
DESCRIPTION:09.15 Registration\n\n[caption id="attachment_47026" align="ali
gnright" width="264"] Professor John Tyrer[/caption]\n\n09.30 An introduct
ion to laser shearography. Session to be led by Professor John Tyrer\, Man
aging Director of Laser Optical Engineering Ltd. John has 40 years of expe
rience in industry and academia. The Defect Dtect system developed in John
 's R&amp\;D facility is a small\, modular\, and versatile laser shearograp
hy unit providing whole field\, non-contact\, non-destructive testing for
the inspection of composites\, bonded structures\, and other advanced mate
rials.\n\nDuring the morning session\, which is being held in John's works
hops\, a number of practical demonstrations will be undertaken and explain
ed to showcase the technology. The practical is mixed with the theory as t
o what laser shearography technology is and what it can do.\n\n10.45 Tea &
amp\; Coffee\n\n11.00 Continuation of introduction to laser shearography.
During these first two morning sessions\, the following topics will be cov
ered:\n- Strain analysis of composite structures. To assist in the design
of optimal composites.\n- Manufacturing faults identification. To improve
the design and build quality of composites.\n- In life/refit and damage id
entification of composites. To identify various types of composite damage
and assess their effect on the structures.\n- Traffic light system of red
 amber and green\, covering delamination\, disbonds\, core materials\, osmo
sis blisters etc.\n- Laser shearography of carbon rigging and composite ma
 sts.\n\n12.45 Lunch\n\n[caption id="attachment_47027" align="alignright" w
 idth="230"] Professor Bob Cripps[/caption]\n\n13.30 Professor Bob Cripps\,
former Engineering Manager at the RNLI. Bob plans to share his extensive
knowledge and experience with the group gained from many years as technica
l lead at RNLI.\n\nBob is well known for his work in the design and develo
pment of small craft and the use of composite materials in marine applicat
ions. This was recognised with the award of an Honorary Doctor of Engineer
ing from Bournemouth University in 2005. His particular areas of interest
and expertise are the development and integration of methods and processes
to enable naval architects and designers to utilise the latest technical
developments simply at an early stage of the design process. He was Engine
ering Manager at RNLI for 18 years responsible for the design and developm
ent of all the classes of lifeboats (offshore and inshore)\, launching equ
ipment and moorings.\n\n15.15 Tea &amp\; Coffee\n\n15.30 John Tyrer wraps
up and concludes the day.\n\n16.00 Close and depart.\n\nImportant notice:
Due to limited space in the workshops\, a maximum of 15 in-person delegate
places are available. However\, others from further afield are invited to
join as an online delegate. A video will be made of the day's proceedings
for sharing with all delegates after the event.\n\nTo reserve your place\
, please use the booking form below. If you prefer not to use our secure s
ervers to book your place\, please email Vicki Loizides at educations@iims
 .org.uk or call her on 023 9238 5223.\n\n&nbsp\;
