SUMMARY:IIMS Türkiye Surveyor Seminar
DESCRIPTION:IIMS is the leading worldwide professional body for the marine
surveying profession. Our membership is increasing steadily in Türkiye\,
in keeping with the country's growing marine industry\, and we have seen a
n uplift in the number of students studying for a Professional Qualificati
on in marine surveying with IIMS.\n\nIIMS training seminar for marine surv
eyors and other interested parties - 5 November 2026.\nVenue: La Quinta by
  Wyndham\, Bodrum.\nIIMS Chief Executive Officer\, Mike Schwarz\, will hos
t the event in person and looks forward to welcoming members\, as well as
non-members and other interested maritime professionals. The event is open
to all and is a great opportunity to network with other surveyors and mar
ine industry personnel.\nWe are still finalising the speaker programme and
the schedule will change\, but here is what we have for you so far:\n09:0
0 -  Mike Schwarz: An introduction to IIMS\, its work and our activities.
\n09:45 -  Ken Hickling: The challenges of painting large yachts. What su
rveyors need to know.\n10:45 -  Break for refreshments\n11:00 -  Dr Mike
Lewus (presenting via Zoom): Understanding corrosion basics and the chall
enges for surveyors.\n12:00 - Pınar Ünlü: Maritime Lawyer and Founder o
 f UNLU LAW OFFICE (topic to be confirmed).\n13:00 -  Lunch\n14:15 - A rev
iew of safety products by Alper Günoral\, including firefighting products
 \, life rafts\, life buoys\, life jackets\, harnesses\, life lines and Fla
g State/Port State rules.\n\n14:45 - Ultrasonic Inspection of FRP Structu
res for Forensic Purposes – When the Laminate Refuses to Tell the Story
by Alperen Gören and Yusuf Civelekoğlu\nGetting a signal is the easy par
t\; interpreting what an amorphous\, anisotropic\, and occasionally rather
badly behaved composite is telling us is where things get interesting. Th
e session will therefore venture beyond textbook indications and into fore
nsic interpretation: what ultrasound can reveal\, what it may merely sugge
st\, and where considerable caution is called for.\nUltrasonic equipment\,
together with selected “delicacies” from our Chamber of Horrors\, wil
l be available for a practical live demonstration and some hands-on partic
ipation. You will have the opportunity to get your hands dirty.\n15:45 -
Mike Schwarz: Lithium-ion batteries. What we know so far.\n17:00 -  Clos
e\nThe cost for the day\, including lunch and refreshments\, is £110 (app
roximately 7\,200 Turkish Lira)\, slightly discounted for online only dele
gates. So\, if you can't get to Bodrum in person for this event\, you can
join as an online delegate via Zoom. There is no maximum number of attende
es.\nIf you require any further assistance or prefer not to use the online
booking system\, please email Vicki Loizides at education@iims.org.uk and
we can arrange to invoice you directly.
