SUMMARY:Ireland Small Craft Working Group
DESCRIPTION:Join IIMS at Shannon Harbour in Co Offaly for two days of excep
 tional and essential training. The first day is highly practical-based\, a
 nd there's a chance to get your hands dirty under the tutelage of Damian B
 uckley\, who will lead the proceedings. The second day is classroom-based 
 in the nearby Community Hall with Karen Brain and Dr Mike Lewus flying ove
 r in person to lead the morning session.\n\nJoin us in person\, or partici
 pate in the second day as an online-only attendee.\n\nThe event is open to
  IIMS members and non-members alike.\nDay 1\n09.30 - 10.30 Workshop on how
  a docking plan should be created and what to look for.\n10.30 - 11.30 Doc
 king the boat and emptying the dock.\n11.30 - 12.30 Conducting thickness t
 esting on the hull and checking out the anodes.\nLunch - 6 minute drive to
  a nearby pub at own cost.\n14.15 - 15.15 Assessing examples of how platin
 g is applied and what to look for\, plus a rudder modification with some w
 elding that should be looked for.\n15.15 - 16.15 How to check the bearing 
 and shaft\, plus any questions\, and a tour of our other barge floating.\n
 \nAlso\, we will look at welding processes in the late afternoon\, common 
 weld defects\, and what's acceptable as an overplate on a boat. A couple o
 f welding units will be available\, so anyone who wants can have a go at w
 elding\, just so they understand how difficult it is\, and again what to l
 ook for.\nDay 2\n09.30 - 11.00 The different types of corrosion\, their ca
 uses and effects presented by Dr Mike Lewus.\n11.00 - 12.30 Karen Brain ta
 lks about the compilation of reports and surveyor ethics.\nLunch - 6 minut
