SUMMARY:Surveying bilge pumps in small craft
DESCRIPTION:[caption id="attachment_9175" align="alignright" width="300"] Y
our presenter is Geoff Waddington[/caption]\n\nBilge pumps are critical pi
eces of equipment on a small craft. There are many types that perform in d
ifferent ways that a surveyor needs to understand.\n\nJoin IIMS President\
, Geoff Waddington\, on Tuesday 23 March 2021 at 10.00 (UK time) for 'Surv
eying bilge pumps in small craft - what surveyors and MCA coding examiners
need to know'. A copy of the video can be purchased if you are unable to
attend in person.\n\nThe agenda:\n10.00 - 12.00 Geoff talks bilge pumps in
  depth.\n12.00 - 12.40 Matt Edmond\, Product Manager\, Jabsco\n12.40 - 13.
10 Specific aspects of the MCA codes relating to bilge pumps are to be cov
ered off.\n\nThe presentation will cover:\n• Types of Pump (electric) -
positive displacement\, remote and submersible.\n• Types of Pump (manual
 ) - diaphragm\, stirrup etc.\n• Operation - float\, water sensors\, remo
 te switched\, etc.\n• Bilge sumps - sailing boats - level bilge issues.\
 n• Strum boxes.\n• Pipe-work - bulkhead penetrations.\n• Non return
valves - back flooding.\n• Electrical supplies - wiring\, junction boxes
 \, etc.\n• Environmental issues - water separators\, oily water tanks\,
disposal\, etc.\n\nFrom Matt Edmond (Jabsco)\nMatt will present on 3 types
of submersible Jabsco bilge pumps\, specifically around the types of wate
r sensing offered.\n· Standard pumps operated by external float or electr
onic level switch\n· Timer pumps that switch on every 2.5 mins to check f
or water\n· Auto pumps that use a level sensor\n· Low profile pumps for
shallow bilge areas\n\nAnd specifically for MCA coding examiners/surveyors
:\n• What is a bilge compartment\n• Which compartments require pumping
 \n• Which compartments may\, possibly\, be accepted without pumps\n• M
ain pump and emergency pump for each compartment - emergency may be common
to all or not\n• Types of system- manifold - individual pumps for each
compartment and so on\n• Pipe and hose materials - non-combustible in ER
s or other fire risk spaces\n• Bilge alarms - when required\; where requ
ired to be located\;where required to be heard and seen\n• Locations of
pumps as per the MCA codes\n• Pump capacities for under 6 metres\, 6 to
12 metres and over 12 metres\n• Larger capacity requirements for cargo c
arrying or lifting operations\n• Open boats - pumps\, buckets and bailer
s\n• Pumps on RIBs\n• Pumping with deck hatches shut and possible exce
ptions to this\n• Testing bilge pumps at survey\n• Testing bilge alarm
s at survey\n• Checking pump capacities\n• Reduced capacities with inc
reased head/height to discharge\n\nUse the form below to confirm your plac
e online. If you prefer not to book online please call Camella Robertson o
 n +44 23 9238 5223 or email her at membership@iims.org.uk and we will invo
