 ion is being given by Dr Mike Lewus. He is someone well known to IIMS and 
 has authored and delivers the Professional Qualification in Marine Corrosi
 on.\n\nIn this short two hour presentation\, entitled Understanding Microb
 ial Induced Corrosion (MIC)\, Mike will cover the fundamentals of corrosio
 n in the marine environment and examine how microorganisms can influence a
 nd accelerate corrosion processes.\n\nDrawing on research project work and
  real-world case studies\, it explains why corrosion can be particularly a
 ggressive in seawater and how biofilms and microbial activity contribute t
 o characteristic damage patterns observed on vessels and marine structures
 .\n\nThe case studies highlight where microbiologically influenced corrosi
 on (MIC) is genuinely likely\, where it is commonly misidentified\, and wh
 y careful interpretation is essential. The session concludes with a practi
 cal overview of detection\, diagnosis\, and prevention\, including a clear
 \, step-by-step approach that surveyors and marine professionals can apply
