IIMS is pleased to announce a full on day on Monday 13 November, which is open to members and non-members. Although classroom based, the afternoon slot inspecting flawed coating plates with a range of testing equipment will be interactive in nature as delegates get to have a play!
Details have been released for the IIMS Large Yacht & Small Craft Working Group ‘Super’ Training Day on Monday 13 November. The venue for the event is the Spindle Room, Building 1000, Lakeside North Harbour, Western Road, Portsmouth, PO6 3EN. This is ample free parking on site. Lunch will be served and is included in the cost.

Mike will bring those present and online up-to-date with what has been a busy and productive year
09.35 Surveying large yachts by Peter Chettleborough, Winterbothams
Peter will speak about some of the challenges and issues a surveyor is likely to be faced with when surveying ever more complex, larger yachts and the range of skills you need to have in your locker
10.50 Business management skills by Mike Schwarz
Mike has a couple of short presentations devoted to business success and strategy planning, one of which requires delegate participation
11.30 The latest thinking from Tritex NDT gauges by Jon Sharland
Jon Sharland will bring delegates up-to-date with the Tritex range of products, in particular their recently launched GRP thickness gauge
12.00 The Boat Safety Scheme – what it is and what we know by Graham Watts
Something of particular interest to those who survey inland waterways craft, Graham Watts will talk about the activities of the Boat Safety Scheme
14.00 Small craft surveyor PI claim reviews – lessons learnt and how to avoid them by Paul Winter, Winter & Co Ltd
15.00 How to spot imperfections in coatings and the equipment to do it with, a practical session by Tim Jennings, Akzo Nobel
Tim is one of over one hundred who have qualified through the Registered Marine Coatings Inspectors course run by IIMS and now cited in the soon to be launched ISO as a recognised standard. He will introduce delegates to the equipment and then let them use it on a number of flawed test plates
This training event will also be broadcast by video conferencing for distant delegates, or those unable to travel to Portsmouth.
The cost of the day is £120 (non IIMS members £125) to include lunch and refreshments, plus copies of the various presentations. 5 CPD points are awarded to those who attend and 3 points for those who join online.
