Accident & Incident Calendar

IIMS receives daily maritime news feeds from around the world. Many of these news feeds give information about accidents and incidents at sea and on inland waterways. Ships, boats and vessels of all shapes and sizes are involved. Sadly, some of these accidents and incidents inevitably result in fatalities.

Many of the accidents will be formally investigated by the authorities, and the causes established many months later. In the majority of cases, human error will be cited as the primary cause. But for some accidents, the reasons will never be discovered.

This database is updated often, but only records those accidents that reach IIMS. There are undoubtedly many others around the world that the Institute never gets to hear about.

IIMS offers its condolences to those who have lost loved ones in maritime accidents and disasters.

To those who appear in the statistics here, may they rest in peace.
