IIMS Silver Jubilee Awards

Following a search lasting six months to discover and recognise excellence in marine surveying, the IIMS Silver Jubilee Awards for Excellence were announced on 31 August 2016 at Regent’s University in central London as part of the Institute’s 25th anniversary celebrations.

Presentations of the crystal trophies were made by Sir Alan Massey during a splendid luncheon and ceremony. Sir Alan, who is Chief Executive Officer of the UK Maritime & Coastguard Agency, also addressed around 100 delegates at the end of the ceremony when he gave a short key note speech. IIMS Silver Jubilee Awards finalists announced

To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS), nine awards categories were created to represent excellence in marine surveying in various disciplines. The deadline for nominations was 30 June. Following a meeting of the judging panel on 12 July, the nominations have been whittled down to a list of finalists. View full press release.

International Institute of Marine Surveying celebrates its Silver Jubilee

The International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) celebrates its 25th anniversary this year having been founded in 1991. From humble beginnings, the organisation has grown steadily to become the leading, worldwide body for professional marine surveyors of all disciplines and is now respected as such globally. The Institute boasts one thousand members in nearly one hundred countries. IIMS is increasingly passionate about educating surveyors and increasing standards throughout the profession. 25th Anniversary Conference 2016

Members of the IIMS came from far and wide to celebrate the Institute’s 25th anniversary and silver jubilee in London on 31 August and 1 September 2016. Three iconic venues across the city had been chosen to mark this special occasion in what turned out to be two action packed days.

Regent’s University, set in the heart of one of the jewels of London, Regent’s Park, is a splendid building dating from the 1920s. The Gala Dinner was held in the historic Museum of London Docklands, dating back to the early 1800s. And the second day, comprising ten presentations, took place in the splendour and serenity of The Old Library, Lloyd’s of London. Continue reading “25th Anniversary Conference 2016”

International Institute of Marine Surveying launches new Professional Qualifications

Recently the IIMS was notified by Pearson Edexcel, the external awarding body of the current IIMS HNC and HND in marine surveying qualifications, that they intended to stop supporting specialist, customised course providers such as ours. We were not alone in receiving this startling news, taken by Pearson for reasons known only to them. The final intake for students wishing to gain an HNC/HND is mid October. The scheme will then close for new student registrations, but will remain open for those already registered to complete their studies by 31 October 2018. View full press release.

IIMS launches self help handy guide publishing programme

The International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) has launched a series of self help handy guides under the title ‘What a marine surveyor needs to know about’. The guides are available in a compact and handy A5 size. The series is launched initially with four titles, but over the next year, it is expected to expand to cover over thirty different subjects and topics. View full press release.
