The Marine Surveying Academy (MSA), based in Portchester, Hampshire, UK, is a branded division of the International Institute of Marine Surveying Ltd (IIMS). As an organisation, MSA is dedicated to providing high-quality training and accreditation, and is the market leader in several international niche marine industry sectors.
MSA is able to call on a wide selection of industry specialists who have various, wide-ranging skills and knowledge acquired over many years. MSA delivers short-course one-day training courses and longer specialist training, and examinations leading to formal accreditation and qualifications certified by the IIMS.
MSA training courses are constantly under review and being developed to meet the growing demand from a number of international marine organisations for specialised skills-based training and accreditation schemes. MSA delivers these training solutions at various locations in-person and virtually, using tutors and examiners who are highly experienced in these specialist industry areas.
MSA developed and manages the qualification for the Registered Marine Coatings Inspectors standard in the superyacht sector, which started in 2015. Over 200 superyacht coating inspectors have come forward to study for this specialist qualification.
The programme is run in conjunction with several key, recognised stakeholders, including SYBAss, ICOMIA and AkzoNobel.
Additionally, MSA pioneered a new two-day in-person Yacht Coatings Technical Insight Course. This course is aimed at those who are involved in managing paint projects, but who do not need to become coatings experts.
MSA also manages the programme leading to formal accreditation of eCMID Vessel Inspectors on behalf of the International Marine Contractors Association.
The objective, evidence-based scheme, launched in 2015, has seen over 1,100 offshore vessel inspectors apply to be recognised. As well as managing the eCMID accreditation programme, MSA holds regular training courses for newly qualified inspectors and 5 yearly courses for those seeking to extend their qualification.
