IIMS looks forward to hosting this event face-to-face at Howth Yacht Club near Dublin. Marine surveyors, no matter their affiliations, are all welcome to join for this two day yacht and small craft workshop.

Day 1 Wednesday 13 March

0900 Registration, tea and coffee.
0930 – 1015 Update on IIMS head office activities by Mike Schwarz.
1015 – 1045 The theory of thickness gauges and how they work by Jon Sharland, Tritex NDT.
1045 – 1100 Coffee break
1100 – 1215 Jon Sharland leads a practical thickness gauge session on boats in the marina.
1215 – 1245 Sticky diesel problems by Darrell Broscomb.
1245 – 1330 Lunch.
1330 – 1500 Tramex Moisture Meters by Andy Rynhart. Theory and hands-on session in the marina.
1515 – 1530 Coffee break.
1530 – 1645 Things you see on survey and just could not make up by Geoff Waddington HonFIIMS (IIMS Immediate Past President).
1645 Close.

1845 Group pub dinner local to Howth at own cost (subject to demand).

Day 2 Thursday 14 March

0900 Registration, tea and coffee.
0930 – 1050 Report writing techniques and challenges, plus what insurers want and expect from surveyors – joint presentation and discussion by Mike Schwarz and Geoff Waddington.
1050 – 1100 Coffee break.
1100 – 1200 Sailboat rigging on yachts upto 24mtrs including stainless steel wire standing rigging and lifetime expectancy, the primary causes of failure of wire rigging, the advantages of rod over wire and which parts of the market would benefit from these advantages, plus more by Andy Postle, Allspars Masts & Rigging.
1200 – 1300 Common fibres in use for cruising and racing ropes; Visual signs of damage vs appropriate wear; Failure diagnosis; Knots vs Splices in modern fibre ropes; impacts and lessons by David Mossman, Marlow Ropes.
1300 – 1350 Lunch.
1350 – 1450 In conversation with Karen Brain, Matrix Insurance Ltd.
1450 – 1550 How to conduct a pre-purchase survey by John Walker FIIMS. John, who lives in Palma, Mallorca, will share how he goes about this aspect of his work.
