Event Type

From time to time IIMS dips into areas of business and law of importance to help support marine surveyors in their day-to-day work.

The basics of copyright law – what a surveyor should know will be presented by Karen Brain, Managing Director of Matrix Insurance Ltd, who will be known to many. Although an insurance broker, Karen is also a non-practising solicitor and is well placed to share information on a subject not fully understood by many.

Copyright protects your work and stops others from using it without your permission.

You automatically get copyright protection when you create:
– a survey report
– original literary, dramatic, musical and artistic work
– original non-literary written work, such as software, web content and databases
– photographs, videos and film recordings

Karen will give a basic introduction to the subject of copyright law with advice to surveyors on what they need to know and what to do if their copyright is infringed.  Infringement is especially prevalent with surveyors’ reports.

Use the form below to reserve your place. If you prefer not to book online you can email Vicki Lozidies or call her on +44 23 9238 5223 and we will invoice you.
