Joel Lloyd Pinheiro has made a significant and demonstrable contribution to the marine industry over a career spanning nearly two decades, combining seagoing engineering experience with extensive professional practice as a marine surveyor and consultant.

Joel’s reports are recognised for their technical depth, clarity and impartiality. In addition, he has contributed to the industry through knowledge sharing, mentoring and speaking at IIMS and industry events, thereby enhancing professional standards and standards of marine surveying.

Nigel Cox awarded a Fellowship

Nigel Cox

Nigel Cox has been recognised as a Fellow of the International Institute of Marine Surveying, an acknowledgement of his many years of experience in the UK shipping industry.

This award is most notable for his work in his role as a Principal Naval Architect involved in the design, construction and through-life support of UK naval assets as well as his work with other friendly nations naval forces. His work has been involved with steel hull design as well in the use of advanced composites. He has been instrumental in developing industry best practices for design as well as surveying protocols for naval vessels.

Nigel has been a mentor to many younger engineers and naval architects through his career and demonstrates his sustained commitment to fostering a culture of excellence in his role as an inspirational leader. Nigel has earned the highest respect of his peers and made a lasting impact on ship design and marine assets through life maintenance.

Joe McWilliam awarded an Honorary Fellowship

For the past decade, Joe’s efforts have underpinned the success of the eCMID Accredited Vessel Inspector scheme managed by IIMS on behalf of IMCA with skill and diligence. His detailed in-depth knowledge of the offshore inspection and marine health and safety sectors have made him invaluable as a lead tutor and scheme assessor. Joe’s contribution has been immense.

Scores of Accredited Vessel Inceptors have been tutored by Joe in the mandatory introductory course as well as the 5-year revalidation programme. Many will have endured Joe’s realistic roleplays as part of the training with relish and trepidation!

IIMS is delighted to formally recognise Joe’s significant impact with the award of an Honorary Fellowship.
