At the IIMS Annual General Meeting, broadcast live from the Institute’s headquarters on Tuesday 2 June, long-standing member, Mike Proudlove FIIMS, took over as the next President. He will serve a two-year term.
In handing over the reins to Mike, the outgoing President, Capt Ruchin Dayal, gave a passionate final address from his Goa location as he spoke to an audience of nearly 100 members and other interested parties (in-person and online). He said how honoured he has been to have carried out the role of IIMS President and offered some highlights of his time in office, one being last year’s high-profile Goa conference. He stressed how his time in office had flown by and said it has been one of his proudest professional career achievements.
Following in the footsteps of the now immediate Past President, Capt Ruchin Dayal, Mike paid tribute to the excellent work he had done to promote IIMS over the past two years and thanked him on behalf of the Board and members worldwide.
Mike then went on to offer some parting gifts to Ruchin, which included the Past President’s medal, an engraved gold nib Parker Pen, a novel pair of nautical socks and an as yet unfinished piece of artwork in watercolour that IIMS has commissioned as a special and lasting memento.
In his acceptance speech, Mike said what an honour it was to take over the IIMS presidency. He reminded attendees that he has been a member for over 20 years. He brings significant and deep experience of the workboat sector in which he is currently working.
With Mike Proudlove assuming the presidency, David Pestridge has taken on the role of Vice President. Australian-based Mick Uberti MIIMS, was elected as the new Deputy Vice President.
